New Intel 14th Gen Processor Leaks Reveal Potential October Release

The launch window for the Intel 14th Gen has been hinted at courtesy of new processor leaks. The refreshed Raptor Lake offerings could arrive in October, with K-series SKUs potentially launching at or around Computex and then arriving on shelves in October. Separate leaks give an idea of what to expect from the processors, suggesting we could see a gap-filling 8 performance + 12 efficiency core model and the arrival of 13900 models with more threads and cache.

Intel traditionally announces its new CPU models in the spring and autumn, with K-series SKUs coming first and then non-K models coming later in the year. A system builder has shared images of Intel display advertising for 14th Gen desktop processors scheduled for October, aligning with the company’s traditional cadence.

The newly leaked information comes from Chinese leaker ECSM and includes both desktop and mobile parts.  Earlier leaks suggested Meteor Lake-H was due to arrive in Q4 2023, but ECSM says the H parts are actually planned for late 2024.

Specifically, ECSM says Meteor Lake-H will arrive in late Q4 or early Q1 2025 depending on the specific model. That could mean January or February, but I’d expect less specific 1Q or 2Q dates given the recent launch timing of 14000 parts.

All of the processor leaks shown below except the 8-core 13800 are generally consistent with previous leaks we’ve shared. The recent arrival of some DDR5 overclocking records could make the arrival of 9616 and possibly the 13900-series chips most interesting.

If you were waiting for the new Meteor Lake-S for desktop to arrive with the tile-based architecture, however, today’s leak is going to be a disappointment. Instead, ECSM says Meteor Lake-S has been cancelled for desktops.

That’s disappointing if you’re holding out for Intel’s first truly iterative architecture change in years. Instead, you’ll likely get higher clocks and the same 8P+8E core count as the current 13700 parts with a new model potentially filling the gap between that and the 8P+16E 13900 parts.

On the desktop side, earlier leaks indicated that 14th Gen refresh chips would arrive in the autumn. That said, they’re likely to arrive later than normally timed as they’ll likely follow the 16nm Comet Lake chips.

The rumoured Comet Lake refresh is expected to include increased power consumption, something that could be a let down given the excellent power and cooling requirements of current 13th Gen processors.

Still, cheaper DDR5 prices plus easier compatibility with 700 series motherboards via a BIOS update should make the 14th Gen a tempting target for those looking to upgrade from a 12th Gen chip.

With 14th Gen parts on the horizon and both AMD Navi and Intel Comet still a while away, you may find yourself wanting to boost your PC at a lower cost in the coming months.
