Nvidia's RTX 40-series cards struggle to boost sales among gamers

The latest Steam Hardware Survey reveals that Nvidia's RTX 40-series cards are facing difficulties in generating interest among gamers on Valve's storefront. Despite offering significant performance improvements at similar price points to previous xx50 cards, it seems that many gamers are not eager to upgrade. This can be attributed to the fact that a large number of gamers are content with their current systems or the increasing costs of high-end graphics cards.

Windows 10 remains the most popular gaming OS

The survey results indicate that Windows 10 continues to dominate as the most popular gaming operating system, with Windows 11 capturing a modest 35.75% market share. This uptake may be slow due to system requirements and performance issues associated with Windows 11, which was recently released. However, Windows 11 has already surpassed its predecessor by over a percentage point in market share. Microsoft's continued support for Windows 10 for the next two years may discourage many users from transitioning to the newer OS.

The survey also reveals that the GTX 1650 is the most widely used video card on the platform, followed by the RTX 3060 and GTX 1060. The RTX 3070 appears further down the list, suggesting that most gamers are not compelled to invest in high-end graphics cards.

Interestingly, AMD's highest-ranked discrete GPU is the RX 580, capturing only 1% of the market share. This can be attributed to gamers' satisfaction with their current cards' performance or their reluctance to spend more on a new GPU.

The mobile RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 Ti hold positions 29 and 35, respectively. However, it will likely take a few years to fully assess the impact of the RTX 40-series on Steam.

Although the RTX 40-series has yet to make a significant impact, it has been available for a shorter period compared to its predecessors. Whether these cards will climb up the list in the coming years remains uncertain. It appears that gamers are sticking to more affordable graphics cards.
