We’ve picked out some great 2000 PC games that you can play right now on your PC, as well as a few classics that you might be able to find on sites like GOG if you’re after something more retro.
Splinter Cell
Before Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, there was Splinter Cell. A game that put you in the role of Sam Fisher, a highly trained special ops soldier and spy. Splinter Cell has gone on to spawn many sequels and even a movie, but the original is still one of the best third-person shooters on PC.
The stealth is excellent, and the game rewards you for being quiet and not killing everyone. If you do have to kill someone, there are plenty of ways to dispose of the bodies. The levels are well-designed and the games are very open-ended in terms of how you tackle them. Splinter Cell is one of the best Tom Clancy games ever made and a true classic that deserves a place in any PC gamers library.
Red Faction
Red Faction is an excellent shooter that brings back memories of the old Doom games, where you just have a pistol and a lot of monsters to kill. Red Faction is a lot more mature, though, and a lot more fun. You play as a miner who gets caught up in a revolution, and you have access to a wide range of fun weaponry.
The geomod destruction is a lot of fun – especially when you’re on a tram and mess around with the tracks. The sequel, Red Faction 2, is also worth checking out, but the original Red Faction is more fun and has a better atmosphere. All of the Red Faction games are available to play on Steam, if you fancy going on a killing spree in Mars for some reason.
Deus Ex
The original Deus Ex is one of the best PC games ever made, offering an open-ended experience that blends first-person shooting with RPG elements. It’s a game that encourages multiple playstyles, and you’re rewarded for experimenting with different tactics.
It’s a game that still holds up, too. We think Deus Ex deserves a place on our list of the best FPS games, with its attention to detail, immersive world, and varied gameplay. KOTOR
Knights of the Old Republic is a classic RPG game from BioWare. It’s set thousands of years before the Star Wars movies, and you play as a young man who discovers that he’s a Jedi. The game is a lot like classic Dungeons and Dragons games, which should be no surprise given that BioWare got their start with Baldur’s Gate.
The game is text-heavy, and you spend a lot of time talking to people and making choices that affect the rest of the story. Despite that, Knights of the Old Republic is a masterpiece that deserves to be played by all fans of RPGs. Max Payne
The Max Payne series is a great set of noir-style shooters that focus on bullet time. Max Payne is a troubled cop who has a lot of issues, and he shoots people while using his painkiller addiction to his advantage. It’s a great game and an even better series, and if you like the idea of bullet time, then Max Payne should be near the top of your list of games like Red Dead Redemption 2.
