A mini-ITX RTX 3060 Founders Edition is the dream GPU
A mini-ITX Nvidia RTX 3060 Founders Edition would be the dream GPU, and one industrious Redditor has already made theirs using a modified Gainward RTX 3060 Pegasus. The tiny graphics card comes complete with a custom shroud and heatsink, both of which have been designed using CAD and 3D printed using a filament printer.
The modified graphics card, which you can see below, is a Gainward RTX 3060 Pegasus. However, rather than using the normal cooler, Clashmains has designed a custom shroud and heatsink using the skills they’ve picked up using CAD. The shroud is designed to mimic the appearance of the metal casing found on the Nvidia Founders Edition GPU, and a 92mm Noctua fan has also been incorporated for better cooling.
“I’m not overclocking this, it’s just for testing,” Clashmains says in the comments. Unfortunately, it seems that the process of printing the parts using a PLA filament caused them to become soft and deform at higher temperatures. The part holding the fan also warps at higher temperatures, although both issues should be fixed by using more heat-resistant filaments like ABS or PETG.
This is far from a finished product, but it’s great to see someone taking on the challenge of making their own mini-ITX Nvidia RTX 3060 Founders Edition. Who knows, maybe an executive at Nvidia will stumble across this Reddit post and make it a reality? It’s certainly something that the company has never done before, but it would be great to see them try.
This is Clashmains’ first 3D printing project, making the whole thing even more impressive. We’ll be looking forward to seeing the progress made in refining the design in future attempts, and perhaps we’ll even see an attempt at a full-size RTX 3060 Founders Edition in the near future.
