The team behind Windows Update Restored is thrilled to announce their new Windows update site. This community-based project aims to provide users of various Windows versions with access to long-lost update pages that offer critical and optional packages for maintenance and functionality improvements. While the project has generated excitement, it is important to proceed with caution, as it is not officially recommended by the team.
Restoring Windows Update v3.1 Website
“We have successfully restored the Windows Update v3.1 website from 1997,” explains the Windows Update Restored team. “We are now serving the security updates and other useful packages for the supported Windows versions.” Currently, the site supports updating Windows 95, 98 (and SE), and NT 4.0, with plans to expand to other versions in the future.
The team clarifies that this is not an official Microsoft-backed project. However, they still intend to add more Windows versions in the future. The video below demonstrates how easy it is to update Windows 95 using the site, with small download sizes compared to modern standards. The video also showcases the updating process for Windows NT4 and Windows 98 SE with critical and optional packages.
Please note that not all optional updates are currently available, and some may require multiple visits to the update page and PC restarts to complete the process. The video also provides the web addresses to access the cloned Windows Update pages for each supported version of Windows.

At this time, the site only supports Windows 95, NT 4.0, and Windows 98 (and SE) at the v3.windowsupdaterestored.com address. The team is actively working on adding support for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista or newer.
For updates on the release of these pages, you can refer to the project’s MSFN Forum posts. Please note that Windows Me and Windows 2000 are currently not covered by the update service, but the video mentions plans for future support.
While Windows Update Restored is undoubtedly an interesting project, we strongly recommend considering more secure modern operating systems such as Windows 10 and 11, as well as the latest versions of Linux. Staying informed and up to date in the ever-changing tech landscape is essential.
