A Slew of Skyrim NSFW Mods Spark Outrage

A recent wave of Skyrim NSFW mods utilizing AI cloning techniques to replicate the voices of notable voice actors for non-consensual pornographic content has ignited a firestorm of anger within the voice acting community. Twitter user Robbie92_ has compiled a comprehensive list of Skyrim voice actors whose voices have been used without their consent for these NSFW mods, including April Stewart, Jon Curry, and Susan Eisenberg, among others.

Outrage Spreads Across the Voice Acting Community

The wider voice acting community has expressed mounting anger and concern over the unauthorized use of their work. Prominent actors such as Stewart, Curry, and Hale have voiced their displeasure, while the National Association of Voice Actors has directly addressed the issue on social media, tagging Bethesda Studios and Zenimax Online. The association also shared an article highlighting the detrimental effects of AI-generated content in games.

Community Stands United Against Mods

Joining the chorus of disapproval, voice actors Linsay Rousseau and Jennifer Hale took to Twitter to denounce these mods. Abbey Veffer, another voice actor, made it clear that she does not consent to her voice being used for AI synthesis. Robbie92_ has been diligently compiling a Google document to raise awareness of these mods and report them.

In an interview with PC Gamer, Robbie92_ emphasized the broader implications of the issue, stating, "This problem extends beyond Skyrim, but this list was a good starting point." They continued, "It's encouraging to see both the gaming community and the voice acting community paying attention to this significant problem." Robbie92_ has reached out to some of the voice actors on the list, and April Stewart found the Google doc helpful in taking down the unauthorized content.

PC Gamer also reached out to Robbie92_ for more details on their work, and we will provide updates as they become available.

Protecting Voice Actors from AI Cloning

Voice actors should not have to scour Nexus Mods for hours on end to safeguard themselves from AI cloning used to recreate their voices for NSFW content. The ease of removing such content once it has been reported does not justify the immense time, money, and effort required to combat this widespread abuse of AI technology.

Furthermore, Nexus Mods' current stance on AI-generated work on its platform only exacerbates the problem. While the company claims to remove the mods upon receiving credible complaints, this solution falls short of addressing the underlying issue.

Time for Action

The growing anger among voice actors regarding the use of AI deepfakes to replicate their voices for NSFW mods demands immediate action from game companies and platforms to protect these actors from such abuse.
