Underrated Spells in Skyrim
When it comes to open-world games, Skyrim is widely regarded as one of the best. The magic system in Skyrim is no exception, with five different schools of magic: Alteration, Destruction, Restoration, Illusion, and Conjuration. As you explore each spell category, you'll discover your favorite flavors of the arcane.
While Destruction and Conjuration spells are popular among players for their ability to summon Daedra and unleash elemental attacks, there are some spells that have remained underrated. Here are nine spells that have slipped under most player's radars:
Muffle
Ever wished you could move silently and eliminate enemies without being noticed? Muffle, an Illusion spell, grants you the ability to do just that. Regardless of your gear or armor, you become virtually silent for three minutes. Keep in mind that Muffle has a high mana cost and a five-minute cooldown, but it is a must-try spell for stealthy rogues and archers. It can even be cast on others.
Call to Arms
This Illusion spell enhances the combat prowess of various targets, boosting their health and stamina for a generous duration of ten minutes. The best part is that you don't need to be an Illusion expert to use it. In critical situations, Call to Arms can make the difference between life and death for you or your companions.
Courage
On the other hand, Courage is an affordable and easily accessible Illusion spell. For a mere 18 mana, you can prevent allies from fleeing and grant them extra health and stamina for almost a minute. Combining Courage with the Bound Sword spell creates a deadly duo.
Transmute
If you've ever wished to convert your iron into gold or other valuable materials, Transmute is the Alteration spell for you. This Adept level spell allows you to trade materials, making you feel like an alchemist. It only costs 37 mana and can be learned from the Conjurer at the Altar of Winter in the Dragonborn DLC.
Summon Arvak
Arvak is a temporary steed summoned through the Apprentice level Conjuration spell. It can be handy if you're a new player or haven't acquired a horse yet. However, if you already have a horse, this spell may not be necessary.
Greater Ward
For those proficient in Restoration, the Greater Ward spell is a valuable asset. It increases your armor rating and negates damage by 80 points. Though it requires expertise, the benefits are well worth the effort.
Bound Bow
The Bound Bow spell is an Adept level Conjuration spell that offers exceptional versatility. Not only can you summon a bow, but you can also summon arrows, making it a formidable weapon in any battle.
Paralyze
Considered a late-game Alteration spell, Paralyze is worth becoming an Expert in Alteration. It allows you to temporarily incapacitate enemies, whether for an execution or to prevent them from escaping with your loot.
Stendarr's Aura
Exclusive to the Dawnguard DLC, Stendarr's Aura is an Adept level Restoration spell that significantly increases your stamina for a short period. To obtain the Spell Tome for Stendarr's Aura, you must join the Vigilants of Stendarr and earn the trust of Florentius Baenius, the priest of Arkay at Fort Dawnguard.
Bound Bow, Arvak, and Stendarr's Aura can all be acquired through the Dragonborn DLC. If you haven't experienced this content yet, it's worth exploring before learning these spells.
Armsman
Additionally, Armsman is a powerful and cost-effective skill to learn under the One-Handed tree, suitable for players of all skill levels.
