Star Citizen has raised $600 million in funding but still has no release date. The Star Citizen development has been ongoing for over ten years since its Kickstarter campaign in 2012. It’s now the most successful crowdfunding campaign, and the most expensive game to develop. At the time of writing, $600,019,451 has been raised by over 4.7 million backers.

Developer Cloud Imperium Games breaks records almost as often as it updates the space game’s backers. The game’s funding surpasses all stretch goals, giving Cloud Imperium more financial resources to put towards Star Citizen. The budget is almost double that of the second most expensive game, Cyberpunk 2077.

Star Citizen charges around $52 for early access, and additional donations from fans are likely. However, similar games with crowdfunding campaigns on platforms like Kickstarter have faced criticism due to long development times and disappointing releases.

Games like Star Citizen have been a mixed bag, with titles like Undertale, Divinity: Original Sin, and Shovel Knight restoring faith in crowdfunding. However, games like No Man’s Sky and Nosgoth have made early access itself an infamous thing.

Star Citizen and its spin-off, Squadron 42, do not have a launch window at this time. You can check out the latest Star Citizen updates on the developer’s YouTube channel.
