A free demo inspired by the David Lynch and Mark Frost TV show Twin Peaks recreates the series's opening scenes, with a playable slice of the surreal that feels instantly familiar.
Twin Peaks: Into the Night
Created by the Blue Rose Team, which consists of just two people, Twin Peaks: Into the Night immerses players in the unique atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest town through faithful recreations of moments from the show's first episode, as well as new areas and characters.
The demo, which is available now on Itch.io, features the first, surreal moments of Twin Peaks, from Cooper's arrival to his interactions with the town's inhabitants. Light puzzle elements and tank controls reminiscent of Deadly Premonition round out the experience, giving players a small taste of what a full game based on the show could be.
While Twin Peaks has certainly inspired many games, with the likes of Deadly Premonition and Alan Wake drawing heavy inspiration from it, the show itself hasn't had many official adaptations. This demo offers a taste, showcasing the team's deep affection for the series. It's unclear whether a full game will be produced with just two developers, but the demo is welcome all the same.
I, for one, would love to see more love for Twin Peaks come through things like indie game demos on platforms like Itch.io, rather than just in the form of weird, tribute-y fanart on Tumblr. So, with that slice of cherry pie and that damn fine cup of coffee still on my mind, I'll leave you with the demo's trailer below.
If you're trying out the demo yourself, be sure to check out some of the other best indie games on Itch.io. You might find a hidden gem, just like I did.
