The Star Fox 64 pixel art has been remastered, and it’s better than you might expect. The animated intro for the Nintendo 64 game has been given a fresh coat of paint, and the motion looks, well, quite smooth. It also means you can enjoy the animation at a higher framerate, if you’re into that sort of thing.

YouTuber DaveyJonesGames remasters the Star Fox 64 intro, adding in some animated pixel art for Fox and the rest of the Star Fox team. You can see Falco, Peppy, and Slippy in various poses, and their movements look surprisingly smooth. It’s hard to believe this is animated with simple pixels, but it is.

The comments section of the video gets into a debate about the term “aileron roll,” which is used in the video and is correct. The video shows the movement of the Arwing as it turns, rolls, and changes direction. Though some argue that this is a barrel roll, others correct the term to reflect the use of ailerons, the part of an aircraft that controls the roll.

“Aileron roll is a correct term,” one user writes. “There is no barrel roll in Star Fox. If you barrel roll you are doing an aileron roll.” Another replies, “There is no such thing as a ‘correct term,’ it’s just a different way of saying something.”

Some people get upset about these types of arguments, but I think they’re fun. I also see the difference between “your” and “you’re,” so I get people’s arguments about these things. At least people aren’t arguing about which Star Fox is better, I guess.

The conversation takes a turn when someone mentions their phone’s auto correct changing “bloody” to “body.” “I could not imagine a more British response to this video,” one user replies.

As the video progresses, people make comments about imagining the sound effects of the pixel art, as well as enjoying the pixel art while listening to Corneria. Someone jokes about hearing the conversation in their head, while another expresses their enjoyment of the pixel art while listening to the Corneria theme.

A user vents their frustration with the character in the Star Fox game, prompting others to listen to the pixel art while listening to the Star Fox theme. Another compares it to the Arwing, and the inclusion of Slippy sparks a conversation about different vehicles.
