Raspberry Pi-powered Stray Companion cosplay

Adding another impressive feat to its repertoire, the Raspberry Pi is now powering a Stray Companion cosplay that captivates convention attendees. Created by cosplayer and maker Dawn DuPriest, this cosplay brings the character of Morusque to life, complete with music and animated faces.

Morusque is known for playing music when presented with sheet music, and DuPriest uses a Raspberry Pi to give this aspect of the companion's personality a realistic touch. Attendees can interact with this captivating creation at conventions.

Incorporating an RFID reader, DuPriest's cosplay can recognize sheet music and trigger the Raspberry Pi to play music through a built-in speaker housed in a guitar prop. To replicate the facial expressions of the Stray companions, DuPriest wears a wireless screen that interacts with the Raspberry Pi.

By selecting buttons connected to the Pi, DuPriest can trigger various face animations on the wireless screen, which happens to be an iPad Mini. The use of this device allows for seamless movement during the cosplay.

The brain of the operation is the Raspberry Pi 3B+, which is connected to an RFID reader and a series of buttons via GPIO. To remotely access and control the Raspberry Pi without the need for cables, DuPriest utilizes apps like Pi Helper and VNC Viewer on the iPad Mini.

For generating the face animations, DuPriest relies on an online app called Piskel. This app helps her create sprite sheets that the Raspberry Pi can display. The Raspberry Pi-powered Stray Companion cosplay is a remarkable demonstration of cosplayers' ingenuity in incorporating Technology into their creations.
