Assassin's Creed Codename Jade: Bringing the Full Experience to Mobile
As if there wasn’t enough to get excited about with the imminent reveal of Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade, Ubisoft’s recent hour-long presentation focused completely on the Mobile spinoff. The game aims to provide a full-featured gameplay experience and surprise players with its unique locations, as seen in the brief gameplay teaser.
Officially titled Assassin’s Creed Jade, this free-to-play spinoff is still shrouded in mystery. However, during the presentation and subsequent Q&A, it was strongly implied that the game will feature microtransactions – a topic of concern we would like to address.
Assassin’s Creed Jade is a mobile game, which indicates the potential inclusion of microtransactions. Following the backlash from fans surrounding Diablo Immortal, Ubisoft is aware of the need to tread carefully and avoid the mistakes made by Immortal. Though these are two separate games – Diablo Immortal bringing an existing franchise to mobile and Assassin’s Creed Jade being a brand new mobile franchise – they face similar potential criticism for introducing popular series to mobile platforms. Just like Diablo Immortal, Assassin’s Creed Jade could potentially face backlash for the mere existence of a mobile version of the game.
While we do not have much information about Jade’s microtransactions, it is our hope that they will not greatly impact gameplay. Personally, we believe that purely cosmetic microtransactions are acceptable, but anything beyond that requires strong justification considering the game’s free-to-play nature.
The success of Assassin’s Creed Jade heavily depends on its microtransaction model, and we urge Ubisoft to take fan feedback into account. Assassin’s Creed Jade now joins the lineup of exciting titles in the franchise. Alongside the already-playable multiplayer game Assassin’s Creed Mirage on mobile via Ubisoft Lapin, there is also a VR adaptation called Assassin’s Creed Nexus, an upcoming roguelike named Assassin’s Creed Hexe, and a possible sequel to Assassin’s Creed Red in the works. It is undoubtedly an exhilarating time to be an Assassin’s Creed fan.
