Mortal Kombat 1: Dealing with Rage Quitters in MK11

Mortal Kombat 1 continues the tradition of dealing with rage quitters in hilariously brutal ways with the return of 'Quitalities' in the fighting game sequel. If you weren’t aware, Mortal Kombat 1 had a system in place to punish players who disconnect during matches. When someone bails on a fight, they’re met with some absolutely savage finishers, such as having their head explode or being impaled by a giant rock. It’s glorious.

The stress test for the Mortal Kombat reboot took place over the weekend, allowing fans to try out fighters and supports offline or against other players online. Some players in the stress test experienced rage quitters, giving us a glimpse of the new Quitality animations in MK11.

Instead of head explosions or rock impalings, characters in MK11 now snap their own necks to escape beatings. The animation features a noir color palette and the sound of bones crunching, adding to the gruesomeness of the disconnect. It’s amazing.

PC players hope to be included in future betas or stress tests, as the console stress test is wrapping up. We recently got a look at the console version’s intense and brutal gameplay, and it looks like Mortal Kombat is back in a big way.

We also anticipate the developer to reduce the mammoth 100GB install size for PC players, as it’s unlikely many gamers have such large drives nowadays. But for now, we can look forward to more opportunities to play before the September 19 release date.

The return of Quitalities adds a humorous and satisfying element to dealing with rage quitters in Mortal Kombat 1, and we can’t wait to see what other creative ways the developers come up with to deal with disconnects in the future.
