Transform your old CRT television into a smart TV with a Raspberry Pi Zero W and OSMC
Transform your old CRT television into a smart TV using a Raspberry Pi and OSMC. Raspberry Pi Zero W transforms the retro set, and the entire setup is relatively cheap at just over $40. Saugat Gamuwa from Maker Sci shares the project on YouTube, and provides a list of hardware used below.
No special hardware is required for the project, just the Raspberry Pi and an adapter. Gamuwa uses an AV to HDMI adapter for video compatibility with the CRT, which uses composite for output. The adapter simply converts the signal to HDMI for the Pi to process.
You can use the setup for gaming by setting up an emulator using RetroPie or Lakka. Otherwise, the project is entirely customizable based on the software you implement on the Pi. You can also use it as a basic desktop, with access to streaming apps through OSMC.
