Add retro gaming to your car with this Raspberry Pi dashboard rig

A member of the community named Cubey125 shares their project on Reddit, detailing how they’ve managed to fit a Pi into the dashboard of their Nissan 370Z. The setup uses RetroPie, one of the most popular applications in the Raspberry Pi community for emulators, for on the go gaming.

The Nissan 370Z dashboard has a built-in screen with a composite jack used for video output from the Raspberry Pi. While the method of connecting the Pi to the screen isn’t detailed, you can use HDMI to composite adapters if you want to use HDMI. A wireless keyboard and mouse are placed in the glovebox, along with an Xbox controller for video game input.

The setup works thanks to RetroPie’s automatic system for using the controller. You can place the wireless controller in the glovebox, and use a wired Xbox controller to play retro games on the go. It’s a clever setup, and one that I’m sure would be perfect for playing games like Mario Kart on the go.

In the comments, Cubey125 shares future plans for the project, including dual booting the Pi with Ubuntu and integrating an OBD2 setup for real-time car stats. For now, head over to the original Reddit thread to see the Pi dashboard rig in action, and for updates.
