Stop the Murder Machine
Wondering how to beat the Murder Machine in Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective? The fifth chapter of Sissel’s adventure presents the game’s trickiest challenge, with only three seconds to prevent the Murder Machine from firing once the sequence starts.
The Murder Machine is just one of many tricky puzzles in Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, but it’s easily the most intimidating. Thankfully, your inability to solve it is probably due to some red herrings, rather than any lack of logic on your part. This guide will help you distinguish between those items that are useful and those that aren’t, so you can focus on solving the puzzle rather than wasting time examining objects that won’t help.
How to beat the Murder Machine
If you’re flummoxed by the Murder Machine’s moving mechanisms, this guide should help you. The good news is that you can restart and try again as many times as you need to get it right – you’re only wasting time if you don’t even try.
Begin by using the stepladder on the ground to roll to the right side of the room and listen to the Green Detective’s conversation. Return to the phone desk when the cop comes back and use the desk lamp to draw his attention to the notebook, as you did in the previous chapter.
The Green Detective will call the Prison, allowing you to possess the phone and obtain the number. Head to your newest destination and wait for Bailey to tape a note to the wall.
Possess the note and make it fall, catching the other guard’s attention. Eavesdrop on Bailey’s conversation when the telephone rings and use the new phone number to return to Lynne.
Unfortunately, Lynne has died again since your last call. Investigate her body to find out what happened this time.
Manipulate events by waiting for the Pigeon Man to walk past you and entering his lamp. When he places it on the crate near the door, move to the phone and wait for the call from upstairs.
Listen to the Pigeon Man’s conversation with the cop, then teleport upstairs before he hangs up. Close the kettle lid in the upstairs room to make the cop move it near the ground.
Use the motor in the ceiling fan to reach the room below through the open trapdoor.
With little time before the gun goes off, pause and unpause time carefully to maximize your seconds. Wait for the ball on the fan to fall onto the table, then make your way down to the trapdoor in the floor and open it.
Finally, open the toolbox in the upper left to move the bowling ball, triggering a chain reaction that prevents Lynne’s third death.
That’s it, you’ve finally saved Lynne. Talk to her, ask all available questions, and proceed to the next chapter.
