“New friend?” Boon shares on Twitter, with a screenshot from the trailer showing the mystery character standing behind Geras. Boon’s caption reads, “You never know who might show up,” which is an obvious tease to fans who are already speculating about the character’s identity.
The character is only seen for a split second, so we don’t have much to go on, but the screenshot does confirm that the character is real, and not just a random glitch in the trailer. The character is seen in a group shot of confirmed characters, so they’re definitely part of the roster. But since they’re not part of the main roster, it’s possible they’re a DLC character.
The character’s hair and clothes certainly look similar to Cole Young, the main character of the recent Mortal Kombat movie, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they were included as an MK11 tie-in. Cole could be a way to promote the film while also merging the timelines.
Another possibility is Kai, a character who hasn’t seen action since Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, and previously fought for Earthrealm. However, the mystery character’s appearance doesn’t quite match Kai’s.
