Mortal Kombat 11 fans suspect return of gear customization

Mortal Kombat 11 fans suspect that Geras’ reveal trailer for the fighting game hints at the return of Gear customization. So far, NetherRealm Studios has been regularly releasing character reveals and breakdowns for Mortal Kombat 11 since its initial reveal in May. The latest trailer showcased Liu Kang and also revealed Geras’ return to the game. Observant fans noticed that Geras is shown wearing two similar outfits in the trailer, but with noticeable differences in details.

From the shoulder pauldron to the back jewelry, chest symbol, and trouser design, Geras’ outfits appear to be slightly different. While alternate colors for characters have been confirmed in gameplay footage, the differences in Geras’ outfits appear too significant for a simple color swap.

“Gear customization!” many fans exclaimed on Twitter and Reddit, while others pointed out that Geras could be wearing different outfits or parts of different outfits. It’s possible that the outfits are alternate costumes, but the minor changes suggest otherwise.

“NetherRealm would advertise that as a big feature if it was indeed gear customization,” one Reddit user points out. Another user humorously writes, “I’m hoping Geras just couldn’t decide on his alternate outfit choice.”

If Geras does indeed have gear, it would be a significant feature. If the feature isn’t present, the author believes that NetherRealm would advertise it more prominently—not just through gameplay but also through cutscenes.

However, even without gear customization, Geras’ outfits may just be tied to specific abilities within his moveset, which could also be an exciting feature. The author personally thinks that, if gear is in the game, “Geras’ different outfits could be tied to different variations of his stances or stances in general.”

Of course, the final confirmation regarding gear customization will have to come from NetherRealm Studios. But in the meantime, fans are eagerly awaiting more information and are hoping that gear customization will be a feature in the upcoming fighting game.
