Mortal Kombat 11 fans yearn for the return of humorous items in the game's Krypt
Mortal Kombat fans are yearning for the return of humorous items in the fighting game's Krypt after a major drop in the number of gags and fun little renders in the game's virtual marketplace. In some of the franchise's previous games, such as Mortal Kombat 3 and 4, players could unlock renders, such as one for Sub-Zero posing with a banana, or silly videos, such as 'Cooking with Scorpion,' which showcased the actor in a kitchen gag.
In more recent entries, such as Mortal Kombat 11, the developers have focused primarily on cosmetics and generic unlockables, leaving fans with a feeling that something is missing.
'I miss the gags in the Krypt,' one user on the Mortal Kombat Discord server writes. 'I liked getting all the silly renders and stuff.'
'I agree,' another replies. 'I think in the newer games, they've just focused on cosmetics and stuff that doesn't make it feel like the old days.'
Some of the old Krypt items centered around the characters taking sponsorship deals, such as Kano's own cereal brand and Shang Tsung's insole spray, which made fun of real-world sponsorships in esports and gaming.
The absence of these humorous items in the newer Mortal Kombat games has left fans feeling nostalgic, but it's unlikely we'll see them return soon with the series' current, more serious story.
'I miss the gags in the Krypt, too,' another user responds. 'But I don't think they'll be back any time soon with the way MK has gone with the story.'
NetherRealm hasn't stopped trolling players entirely with modern Mortal Kombat games, with the developers even pulling the infamous empty FU Krypt box prank with Mortal Kombat 11. So, if the developers are willing to bait players again with a big tease, perhaps we'll still see some fun with the game.
