The Sims 4 Horse Ranch introduces four equine skills for your horses to master. These skills teach your horse how to perform key activities, such as jumping, agility, and social interactions. Each of these skills has its own set of activities, and they all contribute to making your horse a well-rounded companion.

Sims 4 horse training skill requirements

Sims can improve their horse’s skills by practicing and performing training activities. There are no skill requirements to begin horse training, but horses with better skills will be better companions. For example, horses with better Temperament skills are friendlier and more docile, making them easier to train for beginners.

Sims 4 horse training skills list

There are four horse training skills in The Sims 4:

  • Temperament
  • Agility
  • Jumping
  • Endurance

Regular care and bonding time with the horse also passively increases its Temperament skill. You can also use social interactions with your horse to build its Temperament skill, which improves the horse’s ability to socialize with Sims and other animals.

Horses also have the Agility skill, which allows them to move more fluidly and compete in Barrel Racing competitions. Horses need to be trained on the Barrels to improve this skill. While regular riding does impact a horse’s overall fitness, it doesn’t improve their Agility; you need specialized training using the Barrels to do so.

Horses may knock down the bar when first learning to jump, but they will improve with practice. You can continue to ride your horse after it learns to jump, but it will continually practice jumping unless the bar is knocked down, which requires manual resetting.

Horse training in The Sims 4 is a passive process that occurs as the horse is ridden more frequently. For example, the horse’s Endurance skill increases its ability to endure longer rides. Horses will continuously practice jumping unless the bar is knocked down, which requires manual resetting.

That’s everything you need to know to train your horse in The Sims 4. Building a horse’s skills not only improves its abilities but also allows for participation in various competitions and activities. If you simply don’t have the time to invest in horse training, you can also send your horse for training at Community Boards around town.
