I’m a big fan of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, so I was very excited to hear that Sumo Digital was working on an adaptation of the iconic horror game. While the game got a bit of a mixed reception when it released, I personally enjoyed the thrilling escape from the chainsaw-wielding Sawyer family.
If you’re a big horror game buff, you’ll likely be familiar with some of the other greats in the genre. That being said, if you’re a fan of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and want to try some similar games, here are some fantastic survival horror games like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Here are some games like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre:
Hunt: Showdown
Set in an alternate history of the 1890s, Hunt: Showdown is an FPS Survival Horror game where a group of bounty hunters hunt down a cursed individual who has unleashed a horde of monsters upon the Louisiana Bayous.
The game is absolutely gorgeous, and the constant threat of death from both the environment and the other players is a fantastic addition to the survival horror genre. The asymmetrical gameplay is also one of its biggest selling points.
Until Dawn
Until Dawn is a drama horror game centered around a group of friends in the Canadian Rockies. When the group of friends discovers that one of their own might be the next victim of a serial killer, they must figure out who is the target before it’s too late.
Much like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Until Dawn employs a slower-paced and more cinematic style of gameplay. While it is a bit more narrative-driven, the game’s jump scares are just as effective as some of the best horror games out there.
Lollipop Chainsaw
If you prefer a bit more color and fun with your horror, then you should check out the Japanese hack-and-slash game Lollipop Chainsaw. You play as Juliet, a high school girl who must fight hordes of zombies with a chainsaw. You’ll also be able to use a variety of other melee weapons, and even a chainsaw-equipped motorcycle.
This game isn’t for everyone, but if you love Japanese games with a strong pop culture influence, then Lollipop Chainsaw is an absolute treat. The game is lighthearted, but it also doesn’t shy away from some of the more serious and horrifying aspects of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Identity V
Identity V is a free multiplayer horror game that you can play on PC or mobile, so there’s no need for expensive hardware. In Identity V, you and your friends must solve puzzles and fight through hordes of zombies to survive.
Despite the free-to-play mobile release, Identity V has a lot of depth to it and can scratch the itch of fans of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. If you’re interested in the game but concerned about microtransactions, you can rest easy; the game has been reworked so that there are no more purchases.
It Takes Two
If you’re looking for a co-op game that’s a bit lighter on the horror, It Takes Two is a great choice. In this game, you and a loved one work together to fight through a zombie apocalypse.
You and your partner must work together to return to normal and get past the challenges of everyday life. It Takes Two is a good game to play with your partner to spice up your relationship, or with your best friends for a laugh.
Left 4 Dead 2
If you’re looking for a game that’s more of an old-school classic, Left 4 Dead 2 is a fantastic choice. The game is an FPS survival game in which you and a few friends work together to fight your way through a zombie apocalypse.
Each of the four survivors has a special ability that can be used to help the group, but they also have individual health bars, so one false move can mean certain doom. The game also has a lot of replay value, as each campaign offers a different experience and the game itself is one of the best co-op games of all time.
SpyParty
If The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is more your speed than Left 4 Dead 2, then you might like SpyParty. In this asymmetric espionage game, a spy must accomplish their mission at a fancy party.
Unfortunately for the spy, there are also a few assassins in the room, and they’re trying to kill the spy.
