Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada responds to fan requests

Tekken 8 director Katsuhiro Harada has responded to a tweet about character requests for the fighting game, cautioning fans against making exaggerated proclamations to the series director or creator. Harada’s warning comes in the wake of a tweet about Tekken 8 character DLC, which jokingly threatened the game’s director over the absence of a fan pick in the upcoming installment.

“Even if it’s a joke, directly expressing exaggerated proclamations to the series director or creator is not a good thing,” Harada tweets. “I’m not saying not to be passionate, but there are negative consequences, including increased security costs and potential cancellations of planned appearances and features.

“If the company founders and board members are intimidated, character or feature cancellations are not out of the question. Please be careful and use the word ‘I’ instead of ‘We.’”

Harada goes on to emphasize the potential negative impact of threats, posting a series of follow-up tweets. “The word ‘threat’ means ‘to say something with the intent to cause fear,’ but if you use it in a joking manner, you’ll probably receive a more severe reaction. I don’t think the people who use threats are actually causing fear, but it’s impossible to judge from the outside.

“People who leave excessive messages (fake information, hoaxes, threats), and those who use the word ‘We’ instead of ‘I’ are also increasing the likelihood of negative outcomes. They decrease the motivation of the development staff, too.”

“Due to the excessive behavior, fake information, hoaxes, and threats, I don’t think the requests of enthusiasts will be far from being realized,” Harada concludes.

The director’s comments come after a tweet from a fan, who joked that they would not be playing Tekken 8 if their favorite character was not included, prompting Harada to address the issue. “With the high number of fans requesting their favorite character, I’m concerned about the fan requests flooding me,” Harada says. “I’m going to address this, so please refrain from bombarding me with requests.”

I understand where Harada is coming from. I appreciate all the enthusiasm and support for Lucky Chloe, but I understand the fatigue that comes from constant character requests. If you want to share your support for #BringBackChloe, keep it away from my attention please. https://t.
